BELLEVILLE – A Granite City woman alleges she was injured during chemotherapy treatments because medication was not provided in the proper location.
Christine Rutter and Larry K. Rutter filed a complaint on Oct. 23 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Illinois Oncology LTD and John Visconti DO, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, Christine Rutter had part of her colon removed in January 2016 and was implanted with a Vortex Port-A-Cath in February. Following the implantation, the suit states she went to Illinois Oncology LTD for chemotherapy.
The suit states that employees at Illinois Oncology LTD injected or infused medication into Christine Rutter's chest tissues instead of through the port-a-cath, which caused her to develop necrotic tissue defect in her left breast and chest.
Larry Rutter alleges he has suffered loss of consortium, society and companionship of his wife.
The plaintiffs allege the defendant failed to properly supervise and train staff in the proper procedures for use of the port-a-cath.
The plaintiffs seek damages of more than $50,000, plus fees, costs and all other relief that the court may deem just and proper.
