Patient alleges Walgreens failed to dispense medication

Medical malpractice 02

EDWARDSVILLE — A patient claims he suffered a spinal epidural abscess and T6 paralysis when he was unable to take his medication, causing an infection to spread.

Steven Norbury filed a complaint on Oct. 25 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Walgreens Co., Anderson Hospital, Raghu Kanumuri MD, Andrew C. Russell MD, and Lee H. Young PA-C, alleging medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, Norbury alleges Walgreens failed to dispense medications in accordance with the prescriptions. Because he was unable to take his medications, he claims an infection spread to throughout his body and caused him to suffer a spinal epidural abscess, T6 paralysis and pressure ulcers.

As a result, Norbury claims he sustained pain and suffering, multiple hospitalizations and nursing home admissions, loss of earnings and loss of enjoyment of life.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants negligently deviated from the acceptable standards of care in using the degree of skill and learning ordinarily used in treating patients.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages within the jurisdictional limits of the court and any further relief as the court may deem just and proper.

He is represented by Bill T. Walker of Law Offices of Bill T. Walker in Granite City and James E. Parrot of James E. Parrot Law Office in St. Louis.
