EDWARDSVILLE — A driver is suing another motorist, citing alleged negligence.
Melton S. Thomas filed a complaint Oct. 18 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Jacob W. Mathenia, alleging Mathenia failed to maintain proper control of his vehicle.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 17, 2016, he was driving on Union Street near its intersection with Liberty Street when the defendant's vehicle hit the plaintiff's vehicle. The plaintiff claims he suffered extensive injuries to his neck, head, back and hand, experienced disability and disfigurement and incurred medical expenses related to the crash.
The plaintiff holds Mathenia responsible because he allegedly negligently drove his vehicle at a speed greater than reasonable and failed to timely apply breaks or swerve to avoid striking the plaintiff's vehicle.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant in excess of $50,000, costs of suit and all other relief that the court may deem just and proper. He is represented by Rodney D. Caffey and Ralph J. Mendelson of The Caffey Law Firm in Godfrey.
