Widow files suit against ANCO Insulations Inc., others over husband's lung cancer death

Asbestos 07

BELLEVILLE – A widow alleges her husband's lung cancer was caused by asbestos exposure.

Mary Vitrano, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Raymond Vitrano, deceased filed a complaint on Sept. 25 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against ANCO Insulations Inc., Crown Cork & Seal USA Inc., Flowserve Corp., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that at various times during Raymond Vitrano's career life between 1948 and 1985, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. The suit states that on or about Jan. 4, 2016, they first became aware that he developed lung cancer, an asbestos-induced disease, and that the disease was wrongfully caused. He died on Feb. 3, 2016, the suit states.

The plaintiff holds ANCO Insulations Inc., Crown Cork & Seal USA Inc., Flowserve Corp., and others responsible because the defendant allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when adequate substitutes were available and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks economic and compensatory damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
