Patient alleges partial vision loss from unnecessary eye surgery

Medical malpractice 03

BELLEVILLE – A patient alleges he underwent unnecessary surgery to correct an eye condition.

Corinthian Monk filed a complaint on Sept. 22 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Michael P. Jones M.D. and JFJ Eyecare LTD, doing business as Quantum Vision Centers, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff sought treatment from the defendants for his complaints of chronic blurred vision. Jones allegedly performed surgery in September 2015. Monk claims he presented no symptoms of cataracts and that his vision was correctable without symptoms or signs of visually significant cataracts.

As a result of the defendants' alleged misdiagnosis, Monk claims he underwent unnecessary, painful and irreversible surgery. He alleges he has a scar on his left eyeball and suffers from partial blindness, physical and mental pain, facial disfigurement, lost wages and medical related expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly diagnose and treat his condition and negligently performed an unnecessary surgery.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $75,000, plus costs of this action.

He is represented by Alex E. Enyart of Eckert, Enyart Attorneys at Law in Belleville.
