BELLEVILLE — A consumer filed a class-action lawsuit against a cake and cookie mix producer for allegedly falsely advertising its products as all natural.

Kathleen Harvey, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, filed a complaint on Sept. 8 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against The Purple Mixer LLC, alleging the cake and cookie mix producers violated the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was deceived into believing the defendant's Miss Jones Bakery Co. Confetti Pop Cookie Mix was all natural. As a result, she claims she was damaged for paying a premium price for a product that actually worth less.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant deceptively, falsely and unfairly represented that its product was all natural while it contains several artificial, synthetic and harmful ingredients.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order certifying this case as a class action, award for damages, plus interest, necessary attorneys' fees and costs and all further relief as the court may deem just and proper.

She is represented by David C. Nelson of Nelson & Nelson Attorneys at Law in Belleville and Matthew H. Armstrong of Armstrong Law Firm LLC in St. Louis.
