Cairo property owner alleged to have defaulted on mortgage

BENTON – The federal government is seeking to foreclose on a property in Cairo.

United States of America filed a complaint on Aug. 31 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against Tera P. Jones and Portfolio Recovery Associates LLC alleging failure to pay.

According to the complaint, Jordan took out a mortgage in 1994 through the Rural Housing Service. The plaintiff alleges that the current unpaid balance is $27,136.12, plus interest, for a total amount due of $41,293.41.

The plaintiff seeks judgment to foreclose and sell the real estate, an order for a shortened redemption period, attorney's fees, costs and expenses and any further declaratory and injunctive relief. It is represented by Gerald M. Burke of United States Attorney's Office in Fairview Heights.
