Widow names Alfa Laval, Aurora Pump in asbestos suit

Asbestos 12

BELLEVILLE – A widow alleges the negligence of several companies that used asbestos in the products contributed to her husband's death.

Ardith Roachell, individually and as special representative of the estate of Bobby Roachell, deceased filed a complaint on Aug. 16 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Alfa Laval Inc., Armstrong International Inc., Aurora Pump Co., et al. and others alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that at various times during Bobby Roachell's employment and military service from 1957 to 2016, he was exposed to and inhaled asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed and/or installed by defendants. The suit states he first became aware that he had developed lung cancer in Feb. 23, 2016, an asbestos-induced decease, and died in Feb. 26, 2016.

The plaintiff holds Alfa Laval Inc. Armstrong International Inc., Aurora Pumps Inc., and others responsible because the defendant allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when adequate substitutes were available and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against defendants of more than $50,000. She is represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
