East St. Louis woman files suit over alleged burn injuries sustained in childhood

BELLEVILLE – An East St. Louis woman has filed a suit against a deceased man over burn injuries she alleges she sustained nearly 20 years ago.

Kendrea Lindsey filed a complaint on Aug. 4 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Robert Garrett, deceased, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 26, 1999, she was a guest at Garrett's home as a minor child when another child knocked a pot of boiling grease off of the stove. The grease allegedly splashed onto the plaintiff's body. 

As a result, she claims she sustained severe burns over her body that caused her to suffer pain, discomfort, mental anguish, medical expenses and disfigurement. .

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, costs incurred for this action and any further relief as the court deems just and proper.
