Motorists allege drunk driver caused wrong-way crash

Car accident 33

EDWARDSVILLE – Two motorists allege an intoxicated driver caused a collision on Interstate 55 while driving the wrong way.

Kyle Hovey and Robert Carwile filed a complaint on July 20 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Arlander Graham, Jacob Lawrence Vermaat, FBN Transportation LLC and Mega Leasing Corp. Inc., doing business as Pop's Nightclub, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on July 30, 2016, Hovey and Carwile were traveling in separate vehicles on I-55 northbound in Madison County. The suit states Graham was traveling south in the northbound lane and struck Hovey, which forced Hovey's vehicle into the FBN Transportation vehicle driven by Vermaat. The collision left debris in the roadway that was struck by Carwile.

The plaintiffs allege that Mega Leasing Corp. sold or gave alcoholic beverages to Graham that rendered him intoxicated.

The plaintiffs seek judgments against the defendants of more than $50,000, plus costs of this suit.

They are represented by Jane Unsell of Unsell, Schattnik & Phillips PC in Wood River.
