Couples alleges that ALFA Laval Inc., others failed to warn employees of danger of asbestos

BELLEVILLE — A couple is suing a dozens of corporations for allegedly failing to protect and warn individuals of the harmful effects of asbestos.

Calley Lee Davenport and Ruby Davenport filed a complaint on June 23 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against ALFA Laval Inc., Armstrong Pumps Inc., Aurora Pump Company and many others. alleging that the defendants failed to exercise reasonable care and caution for the safety of their employees working with or around the products that contained asbestos.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that Calley Lee Davenport worked as a sheet metal worker at various locations from 1966 to 2005 and claims that he was exposed to asbestos fibers from some of the defendants' products that we was working with. On Oct. 22, 2015, Calley Lee Davenport was diagnosed with lung cancer, which he claims was caused by his exposure to asbestos.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly not providing warnings to people who were working with or around the products, adequate instructions on how avoid inhaling asbestos and for not conducting tests on the asbestos-containing products.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment for a sum in excess of $50,000 for compensatory damages and for further relief the court deems appropriate. They are represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
