Couple say 4520 Corp Inc., others failed to prevent exposure to asbestos

Asbestos 10

BELLEVILLE — A couple is suing a number of corporations for allegedly taking insufficient measures to prevent employees from contracting asbestos-induced cancer.

Elizabeth Chatellier and James Chatellier filed a complaint on July 6 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against 4520 Corp Inc., AIRCO Inc., Air Products and Chemicals Inc. and several others, alleging that the defendants failed to warn individuals of the harmful effects of asbestos.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that Elizabeth Chatellier was secondarily exposed to asbestos by her father and later husband, James Chatellier, who worked as a welder and pipe fitter from 1952 to 1982. On July 20, 2015, Elizabeth Chatellier found out that she had developed lung cancer due to asbestos exposure.

The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible for allegedly not providing warnings to people working with or around products that contained asbestos, adequate instructions on how to avoid inhaling asbestos or conduct tests on the products.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment for a sum in excess of $50,000. They are represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
