Alton man says officers entered home without warrant

EDWARDSVILLE — A man is suing the City of Alton and two police officers for allegedly entering his home without a warrant and injuring him.

Pete Klingler filed a complaint on June 27 in Madison County Circuit Court against the City of Alton, Mary Maggart and Ryan Hunter, alleging they failed to properly conduct themselves as officers of the law, disregarding Klingler's safety and causing severe blunt head injuries.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 28, 2016, the defendants responded to the plaintiff's residence with no warrant, entered with force and refused to leave his residence.

Klingler claims he was beaten, which resulted in traumatic brain injury, coma, significant medical expenses and loss of normal life.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to obtain a warrant to enter the premises, refused to leave the residence and lacked probable cause to believe that circumstances required immediate police intervention.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount in excess of $50,000, for costs of suit and for such other and further relief the courts may grant.

He is represented by Roy C. Dripps of Armbruster, Dripps, Winterscheidt & Blotevogel LLC in Maryville.
