Federal government claims couple owes more than $100,000 on mortgage

BENTON – A couple is being sued for allegedly failing to pay off a mortgage.

The United States of America, through the Rural Housing Service, filed a suit Feb. 6 against Otis N. Gray and Sheena M. Gray, Village of Beckemeyer and St. Joseph's Hospital Breese in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District Court of Illinois alleging failure to pay.

According to the claim, the plaintiff allowed the defendant to mortgage the property located at 581 St., Beckemeyer. The suit states that the defendants agreed to pay a monthly installment for the use of the property, but that they failed to keep up with payments are and still indebted to the plaintiff for the balance of $107,407.60, which includes interest and other fees.

The defendants are accused of not paying off the mortgage in a timely manner. 

The plaintiff is seeking a judgment to foreclose, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Donald S. Boyce and Gerald M. Burke of the United States Attorney's Office, Fairview Heights.
