Woman claims she was injured after driver ran red light

Car accident 01

EDWARDSVILLE – An Alton woman alleges she was injured in a crash in Wood River after another driver ignored a red light.

Patricia L. Perica filed a complaint on Aug. 25 in Madison County Circuit Court against Cassandra L. Medling alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 6, 2014, Medling was traveling in an easterly direction on Illinois Route 143 in the city of Wood River when she traveled through a red light, was redirected after an impact with another vehicle, and then hit the plaintiff's vehicle. The collision allegedly caused plaintiff injuries that required large sums of money for hospitalization and medical expenses. The plaintiff holds Medling responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to reduce speed to avoid the collision, disobeyed a traffic control device, and failed to keep proper lookout.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for an amount in excess of $50,000, plus $100,000 for punitive damages and costs of the suit.

She is represented by Bob L. Perica of The Perica Law Firm PC in Wood River.
