EDWARDSVILLE — A Madison County woman is suing a motorist, alleging his negligence led to a vehicle crash that caused injuries.
Christina Culp filed a complaint on July 5 in Madison County Circuit Court against Toby Hughes alleging negligence in that the defendant failed to keep his vehicle under control.
According to the complaint, on April 6, 2015, while Culp was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo eastbound on Salu Street near the intersection of Washington Avenue in Alton, Hughes was driving a 2009 Mercury Grand Maquis, northbound on Washington Avenue near the intersection of Salu. The suit says Hughes failed to stop at a posted stop sign and struck Culp's vehicle, causing a violent collision that resulted in injuries to the plaintiff's head, back, neck, and other areas of her body.
The lawsuit states these injuries caused Culp to suffer great pain and mental anguish, disability, loss of normal life and medical expenses. The plaintiff alleges Hughes failed to keep proper lookout, failed to timely stop his vehicle, failed to give proper signal and sound his horn and failed to reduce speed.
Culp seeks a trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000, plus legal costs. She is represented by attorney Michael P. Glisson of Williamson, Webster, Falb & Glisson in Alton.
