BELLEVILLE – The passenger in a motor vehicle is suing the driver over alleged injuries she received during a Collinsville accident.

Anna Lavaia filed the suit April 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Jose L. Tapia, citing negligence.

The suit states that on April 20, 2014, the plaintiff was riding in a vehicle being driven by Tapia near the 500 block of S. Bluff Route 157 in Collinsville. Tapia's vehicle allegedly struck the rear-end of another vehicle, causing injuries to the plaintiff.

The defendant is alleged to have failed to properly brake, drove at an excessive rate of speed, and failed to reduce his speed when a hazard existed. The plaintiff alleges she sustained physical injuries, has spent money for medical care, and has experienced pain and suffering.

She seeks judgment against the defendant of more than $50,000 plus court costs. She is represented by Geoff S. Meyerkord of Meyerkord & Meyerkord LLC in St. Louis and Shelby M. Cowley of the Law Offices of Shelby M. Cowley in St. Louis.
