Passenger alleges injuries after driver crashed into hole

Car accident 15

BELLEVILLE – A passenger in a vehicle is suing over injuries he alleges he received when the driver wrecked in a construction zone.

John Carner II filed the suit April 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Mallory Jarrett, citing negligence.

On Nov. 25, 2014, the suit states Carner was riding in a car driven by the Jarrett when she allegedly drove through a construction area and barriers on Camp Jackson Road, ending up in a large hole.

Carner alleges Jarrett was negligent by failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to keep her vehicle under proper control, driving at a speed greater than reasonable in a construction area and driving through a barricade until the vehicle landed in a hole.

As a result, the suit states the plaintiff was thrown inside the vehicle and hit his head on the roof, suffering injuries, pain and mental anguish. He alleges he will continue to pay medical bills, and he has been unable to pursue the ordinary duties of his life.

The plaintiff seeks judgment of more than $50,000. He is represented by Paul M. Storment Jr. in Belleville.
