EDWARDSVILLE – An Alton resident is suing the city and Lewis & Clark Community College after she tripped and fell on the sidewalk.

Debra M. Fish filed the suit April 12 in Madison County Circuit Court against the City of Alton and Lewis & Clark Community College.

On April 16, 2015, Fish claims she was using a sidewalk owned and maintained by the defendants when she tripped and fell on an elevated portion, she claims.

Fish alleges the defendants were negligent by allowing the elevated ledge to exist on the sidewalk, failing to eliminate the height variation, ignoring prior complaints about the condition of the sidewalk and failing to erect warning signs about the dangerous sidewalk.

As a result, the plaintiff claims she sustained severe injuries, lost wages and value of time, large medical bills and permanent disabilities, the suit alleges.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against both defendants in excess of $50,000 plus court costs and any other remedy the court deems appropriate. She is represented by Gregory M. Tobin of Pratt & Tobin in East Alton.
