Plaintiff claims rear-end collision caused injuries

BELLEVILLE – A Centralia woman is suing over injuries she allegedly received in the course of an automobile accident. She is citing negligence.

Da Venia Flagg filed the suit April 1 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Leigha Light.

On May 7, 2014, the plaintiff was driving westbound along Route 161 in New Baden, the suit says. At the same time, the defendant was also driving westbound along the same stretch of highway, according to the complaint.

The defendant drove her vehicle into the rear of the plaintiff's vehicle, the suit alleges, causing injuries to the plaintiff. The alleged negligence by the defendant, according to the suit, included: failing to reduce the speed of her vehicle to avoid an accident, failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to keep her vehicle under proper control, failing to stop or swerve to avoid a collision, and driving too fast for conditions.

As a result, the plaintiff suffered injures to her neck, head, right arm and right shoulder, has spent money for medical care and will have to do so into the future, suffered disability and loss of a normal life, has experienced pain and suffering, and has lost wages.

She seeks judgment against the defendant for an excess of $50,000 plus court costs. She is represented by David C. Nelson of Nelson & Nelson, Attorney at Law PC in Belleville.
