Crossing guard alleges injuries from slip and fall on ice

BELLEVILLE – An East St. Louis crossing guard claims he was injured when he slipped and fell on ice.

Willis Fuller and Snowbia Fuller filed the suit March 17 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against School District 189.

According to the complaint, Willis Fuller works as a crossing guard for the defendant, located at 501 Katherine Dunham Place in East St. Louis. On Feb. 27, 2015, as he was exiting the premises when he allegedly slipped and fell because the surface he was walking on was covered with snow and ice.

The fall allegedly caused the plaintiff to sustain lacerations on his head and wrist and fractured his right hip, requiring surgery. As a result, he pursued a workers compensation claim. The defendant is allegedly resisting the claim because it says the plaintiff was not in the course and scope of his employment when he fell.

The plaintiffs are citing negligence and loss of consortium.

In addition to a trial by jury, the plaintiffs seek an amount in excess of $50,000 plus court costs and other relief the court deems just. They are represented by Robert G. Wuller Jr. and Derek J. Siegel of Neville, Richards & Wuller LLC in Belleville.
