Driver accused of negligence after South Bluff Road accident

EDWARDSVILLE – The driver and passenger in a vehicle are suing over injuries they allege they suffered when their vehicle was rear-ended.

Alvan Duncan and Rebecca Duncan filed the suit Feb. 8 in Madison County Circuit Court against Dennis Szakacsi, citing negligence.

On Feb. 12, 2014, Alvan Duncan was driving his vehicle with plaintiff Rebecca Duncan riding as a passenger, the suit states, heading northbound on South Bluff Road near its intersection with West Main Street in Collinsville.

The suit states that Szakacsi was driving his vehicle directly behind that of the plaintiffs. Because of his alleged negligence, he drove his vehicle into the rear of the plaintiffs' vehicle.

His alleged negligence includes failing to keep his automobile under control, failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to stop in time to avoid colliding with plaintiffs' vehicle, failing to reduce his speed and driving the vehicle without safe and adequate brakes.

The plaintiffs both suffered injuries as a result of the collision, including to back, legs, knees and other parts of the body; pain and mental anguish; loss of a normal life; face mounting medical bills, have incurred lost wages, and property damages and expenses related to Alvan Duncan's vehicle.

Both plaintiffs seek a judgment of more than $50,000 each, plus court costs. They are represented by Michael P. Glisson of Williamson, Webster, Falb & Glisson in Alton.
