Driver sues over alleged injuries after Alton accident

EDWARDSVILLE – A female motorist is suing over injuries she allegedly sustained as the result of an automobile accident.

Cynthia A. Drainer filed the suit Feb. 8 in Madison County Circuit Court against Chrysa A. Cousley, citing negligence.

On Feb. 26, 2014, both the plaintiff and defendant were driving north on Martin Luther King near its intersection with East 20th Street, Alton, the suit states. The defendant allegedly failed to maintain control of her vehicle, failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to yield the right of way, failed to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and drove too fast for conditions.

As a result of the alleged negligence, Cousley's vehicle collided into the back end of the vehicle being driven by the plaintiff, the suit states.

The plaintiff alleges she injured her head, neck and back; has paid and will pay medical expenses; and has experienced and will experience pain, suffering and disability.

She seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount less than that required to confer jurisdiction, plus costs. She is represented by Laura A. Cole of Smith, Mendenhall, Selby & Cole in Alton.
