Motorist blames two drivers for injuries in chain reaction collision

BELLEVILLE – A St. Clair County motorist is suing two Illinois drivers, alleging negligence over injuries she said she received in a motor vehicle accident.

Gwendolyn Main filed the lawsuit Jan. 25 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Franklin Sturgill of O'Fallon and Emily Lueke of McLeansboro, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on March 21, 2014, Main was slowing for heavy traffic and construction congestion eastbound on Interstate Highway 64. As she was slowing, the lawsuit alleges, she was struck from behind by the vehicle driven by Lueke, who was previously rear-ended by Sturgill.

The suit blames both defendants for failing to reduce speed in order to avoid an accident, negligently driving too fast for conditions, failing to use evasive maneuvers to avoid an accident, negligently following too closely, failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to obey the rules of the road, and failing to exercise reasonable care with operating a motor vehicle.

As a result, the plaintiff alleges she was severely injured, incurred lost wages, loss of enjoyment of life, medical bills past and future, past and future pain and suffering, and disability.

Main seeks from both defendants at least $50,000, court costs and other relief the court deems just and proper. She is represented by attorney Matthew P. Young of Kuehn, Beasley & Young PC in Belleville.
