East St. Louis police department sued following alleged vehicle incident

A man is suing the East St. Louis Police Department after he was injured in an incident allegedly caused by the reckless driving of an officer.

Nicholas Pearson filed a complaint on Dec. 22 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against the East St. Louis Police Department and Officer Andre Williams.

According to the complaint, Pearson was driving his vehicle on Aug. 19 when he allegedly was cut off by  Williams' car. Pearson claims he pulled over and fled from his car. Williams then allegedly proceeded to chase the plaintiff down in his patrol car, hitting Pearson with his vehicle.

The accident allegedly caused Pearson to be severely injured, and negatively affected his enjoyment of life and his physical abilities. He is suing the defendant for negligence and recklessness.

Pearson is seeking compensation for all damages suffered, both financial and physical. He is represented by Jarrod P. Beasley of Kuehn, Beasley and Young PC in Belleville.
