Former marine's family blames multiple companies for asbestos exposure

BELLEVILLE--The estate of a former marine and painter is suing more than 30 companies, alleging negligence for exposure to asbestos that led to the plaintiff dying of lung cancer.

Barbara Bryan, individually and as special administrator for the estate of William Bryan, filed a lawsuit Oct. 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against nearly three dozen companies, alleging negligent manufacture of asbestos, inadequate testing and conspiracy and fraudulent misrepresentations surrounding the dangers and risks of asbestos.

The suit says Bryan, a former marine and member of the Painters Local 328 union, died of lung cancer contracted by asbestos exposure Oct. 20, 2013.

Barbara Bryan seeks more than $50,000, plus costs, punitive damages and attorney fees. She is represented by attorney Randy Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates in Edwardsville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 15 L 591.
