Motorist sues another driver, alleging negligence in rear-end collision

A Madison woman is suing another driver over injuries she alleges she and her son sustained in car collision.

Lisa M. Jacks, individually and as mother of David D. Jacks, a minor, filed a lawsuit Oct. 16 in Madison County Circuit Court against Melissa Moore of Granite City, alleging negligence in a 2014 car accident.

According to the complaint, Lisa Jacks was traveling in a southbound on Edwardsville Road in Granite City on May 20, 2014, with her son David as a passenger. The suit states Jacks was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Edwardsville Road and 20th Street when Moore rear-ended Jacks' vehicle.

The suit says Moore failed to maintain a proper lookout and was driving at an excessive speed. As a result, the suit alleges both Jacks suffered multiple injuries to various parts of their body. They have and will continue to endure pain, the loss of a normal life, and medical expenses. Lisa Jacks also has experienced a loss of income and wages.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus court costs. She is represented by attorney Edward J. Szewczyk of Callis, Papa & Szewczyk in Granite City.
