Three Illinois women sue motorist, alleging negligence in Fairview Heights collision

Three Illinois women are suing a motorist, alleging negligence for injuries they say they sustained in a vehicle collision.

Dasheena N. Cooper, Norma Thomas and Ariel Houston filed a lawsuit on Sept. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against David J. Al Qarrout, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 11, 2013, Cooper was driving a 2006 Hyundai Tucson, with Thomas and Houston as passengers, eastbound in the right lane of Market Place at its intersection with Plaza Drive in Fairview Heights. The suit says Qarrout, driving a 2009 Dodge Charger southbound on Plaza Drive, approached the intersection, directly entered the path of Cooper's vehicle and allegedly caused the front of Cooper's vehicle to impact the front passenger side of Qarrout's vehicle.

The lawsuit alleges Qarrout was negligent in failing to maintain proper lookout, speeding, and carelessly operating, managing, maintaining and controlling his vehicle. As a result, the suit says the plaintiffs sustained personal injuries for which they have incurred medical expenses.

Cooper, Thomas and Houston each seek a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs of the suit. They are represented by attorney R. Brian Harvey of The Beard Law Firm in Carbondale.
