Washington University sued over alleged negligence and loss of consortium

An Illinois couple is suing over alleged injuries the wife sustained following treatment at Washington University.

Madeline Devine and Andy Devine filed a lawsuit on Oct. 5 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Washington University, alleging negligence and loss of consortium.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 26, 2014, Madeline Devine was a patient at Washington University for medical care and treatment. The suit alleges the defendant was negligent and failed to properly address her complaints of bleeding and failed to instruct her to go to the emergency room.

As a result, Madeline Devine has sustained injury, permanent pain and mental anguish, disability and disfigurement, loss of wages and earning capacity and medical expenses.

The suit further alleges Andy Devine, Madeline's husband, has sustained medical expenses and has been deprived of the love, companionship, consortium, support and services of his wife.

The plaintiffs each seek a judgment over $50,000, plus costs. The plaintiffs are represented by attorney Samantha S. Unsell of Keefe & Keefe in Belleville.
