Family sues medical transport company, says negligence led to injuries

A St. Clair County woman is suing a medical transport company, alleging negligence when she says a family member was injured en route to medical care.

Paulette Shipp of East St. Louis, administrator of the estate of Vernon Shipp, deceased, filed a lawsuit Sept. 23 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Client First Medical Transportation Inc., alleging their driver's negligence led to unnecessary bodily injury while in transport.

According to the complaint on Sept. 24, 2013, Vernon Shipp was being transported by First Medical to receive medical care. The suit says Shipp was injured when agents of First Medical began moving the vehicle before he was properly restrained, and did so carelessly and at a high rate of speed.

The plaintiff alleges alleges Vernon Shipp incurred unnecessary injuries and was required to expend great sums of money for treatment. Shipp died April 14, 2014.

Shipp seeks more than $50,000, plus costs of the suit. He is represented by attorney William D. Stiehl in Belleville.
