Campaign finance records for third quarter due next week

Even though the next general election is more than a year away, campaign finance records due next week may provide clues as to how competitive races will be.

Candidates with active political committees must file third quarter fund-raising activity, from July 1 through Sept. 30, by Oct. 15.

Area judicial candidates who have so far declared:

Fifth District Appellate Court 

Vacancy of James Wexstten:

-Second Judicial Circuit Court Judge Jo Beth Weber, resident judge in Jefferson County, Democrat.

-First Judicial Circuit Court Judge James "Randy" Moore, who also serves by appointment to the Fifth District Appellate Court, Republican.

Vacancy of Justice Bruce Stewart:

- First Judicial Circuit judge Brad Bleyer of Carbondale, Democrat.

Third Judicial Circuit 

-Circuit Judge Andreas Matoesian, seeking retention to another six-year term

-Circuit Judge William Mudge, seeking retention to another six-year term

Twentieth Judiclal Circuit

-Full circuit vacancy of Circuit John Baricevic

-Full circuit vacancy of Circuit Judge Robert Haida

-Resident, St. Clair County vacancy of Circuit Judge Robert LeChien

Baricevic said he, Haida and LeChien, Democracts, plan to run for election to the seats they are vacating.
