Freeburg woman sues chiropracter for allegedly causing stroke

A St. Clair County woman is suing a chiropractor for alleged injuries suffered during treatment of neck pain.

Plaintiff Amanda Stuart filed suit on Sept. 2 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Tracy Drennen-Alexander, doing business as Freeburg Chiropractic, for medical negligence.

According to the complaint, after six visits to Freeburg Chiropractic between July and September of 2013, Stuart allegedly developed vertebral artery dissection, a condition tearing the inner linings of neck arteries. As a result, the plaintiff also allegedly suffered a type of stroke known as a cerebellar infarct, causing double vision, vomiting, pain and nausea, which was diagnosed at Barnes Jewish Hospital on Sept. 4, 2013.

The claim states that Drennen-Alexander failed to advise the plaintiff to seek immediate medical treatment for the injuries, which allegedly left her with permanent, partial and total disabilities to her brain, arteries, neck, nervous system and other areas, requiring further medical treatment.

Attorney E.A. “Noel” Sevastianos of the St. Louis firm Sevastianos & Associates P.C. is representing the plaintiff, whose lawsuit is seeking damages of more than $50,000, plus litigation costs and other punitive damages as directed by the court.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 15-L-495.
