Shopper files slip and fall suit against Shop 'n' Save

A woman claims she sustained injuries after she allegedly fell in a Shop 'n' Save grocery store.

Debra L. Barrett filed a lawsuit on Aug.19 in Madison County Circuit Court against Shop 'n' Save Warehouse Foods, Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Barrett was in the grocery store when she encountered a spill in the floor that was allegedly not indicated by signage or in any other way, and subsequently slipped and fell on the liquid, falling to the ground.

The plaintiff claims she suffered severe and potentially permanent damage to her knee and other areas, as well as physical pain, mental anguish, and medical expenses currently and in the future.

Further, she claims she missed work as a direct result of her alleged injuries, causing her to lose further income and an inability to perform her usual daily activities, resulting in disfigurement, loss of a normal life and an overall disability.

The plaintiff seeks a sum in excess of $50,000.00, as well as court costs, lawyer fees and any other restitution as the court sees fit. The plaintiff is represented in court by lawyer Gregory M. Tobin, of the law firm Pratt & Tobin, P.C.,

Madison County Circuit Court case number 15-L-1054.
