Injured driver sues motorist allegedly responsible for rear-end crash

An Illinois man is suing a woman over a rear-end collision that allegedly caused him injury.

Patrick Watts filed a complaint on Aug. 6 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Chelsea Meyer.

On Nov. 19, 2013, Watts was driving his vehicle on South State Street in Freeburg, the lawsuit states, when Meyer rear-ended Watts' vehicle, causing him injury.

The defendant is cited with negligence for failing to keep control of her vehicle, keep a proper lookout, stop or swerve to avoid a crash, drive at a safe speed, drive with adequate brakes, and follow at a safe distance.

As a result, Watts suffered neck, back and nervous system injuries, as well as pain and suffering, and medical expenses. The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs.

The plaintiff is represented by attorney David H. Bone in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 15-L-447.
