Grocery shopper sues Granite City Supervalu over slip and fall

A Madison County woman is suing a Granite City supermarket after she allegedly slipped and fell.

Grace Wheeler of Madison filed a lawsuit on Aug. 13 in Madison County Circuit Court against Supervalu Inc., alleging that a December 2014 fall left her with permanent injuries.

According to the complaint, Wheeler was a customer of the store located at 3521 Nameoki Commons in Granite City on or about Dec. 24, 2014, when she allegedly “slipped and fell on a wet slippery substance that was left on the common walking area of the floor.”

Wheeler argues that the business should have known of the existence of the spill and its unreasonably dangerous condition due to its location in a high traffic area.

The suit states that the defendant was negligent in allowing the substance to accumulate and failing to clean up the spill and warn patrons of the hazard. Wheeler contends that she suffered pain, anguish, and severe injuries to her hip, back and legs, along with substantial medical bills.

The plaintiff seeks judgment in her favor for more than $50,000 plus attorney’s fees and costs. She is represented by Chet Kelly of Foley & Kelly Law Offices in Belleville.
