Customer sues Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill over alleged fall

A customer is suing a barbeque restaurant after he allegedly tripped and fell while leaving Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill in Fairview Heights.

Gregory Lane filed a lawsuit on July 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Barbeque Integrated Inc., Spirit Master Funding VII LLC, Sun Capital Partners Inc. and Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill of Fairview Heights and its owner,Catherine Nelson, alleging negligence following a slip and fall on the defendants’ premises in November 2013.

According to the complaint, Lane was a customer at the Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill on or about Nov. 20, 2013. The plaintiff alleges that due to negligent grounds maintenance, he tripped and fell forcefully when exiting the premises.

The suit claims that Lane sustained severe and disabling injuries to his wrists, elbows, left shoulder, neck, face, mouth and other areas and suffered pain and anguish, lost income and earning capacity, disability and disfigurement.

The plaintiff is seeking between $50,000 and $75,000 plus attorneys’ fees and costs.

Lane is represented by Gregory Skinner of Belleville.
