Alton man accuses motorist of running stop sign

An Alton man is suing a driver following a 2014 motor vehicle collision which he claims left him permanently injured.

DaJuan Williams of Alton filed a lawsuit on July 27 in Madison County Circuit Court against Ashley Battles of Dow, alleging vehicular negligence in a September 2014 accident.

According to the complaint, Williams was operating a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville northbound on Johnson Street near its intersection with College Avenue in Alton on Sept. 10, 2014. The suit states that after Williams stopped at a four-way stop sign and entered the junction, Battles drove her 2003 Jeep Liberty automobile into the plaintiff’s vehicle.

Battles is accused of failure to control and reduce her speed, see and observe the plaintiff, control her vehicle, obey traffic signs, and yield the right of way.

The plaintiff claims he sustained injuries to his body including sprains, bruises and cuts. Williams alleges pain and anguish, head, neck and general body injuries, and medical expenses, along with “internal derangement of the injured members of his body,” loss of income and earning capacity.

Seeking judgment in his favor for more than $50,000 plus attorney’s fees and costs, he is represented by Richard Reed of Reed and Bruhn in Belleville.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 15-L-949.
