A St. Louis County resident is suing a St. Clair County motorist for allegedly causing a three-car collision and then leaving the scene.
Robert Loftus filed a lawsuit on July 24 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against David R. Hatcher, claiming vehicular negligence in September 2014.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff was operating a vehicle eastbound on Route 15 on Sept. 9, 2014. When he stopped at the stop sign located near intersection 57 in St. Clair County, the defendant allegedly collided with Loftus’ vehicle and caused it to strike the vehicle directly in front of the plaintiff’s car. Hatcher then left the scene, the suit states.
The plaintiff claims Hatcher drove carelessly and negligently at an excessive rate of speed, failed to keep a lookout, sound or signal his approach to avoid colliding with the rear of the plaintiff’s motor vehicle.
Loftus contends that he suffered multiple injuries including broken ribs, bruised shins, and general bodily damage.
Alleging pain and suffering, medical expenses and lost wages, he seeks judgment in his favor for more than $50,000 plus attorney’s fees and costs.
Loftus is represented by Lane Matthews of Brown & Crouppen in St. Louis, Mo.
