Woman blames motorist for running red light

A St. Clair County woman claims another motorist caused a collision after failing to obey a red traffic signal.

Holly E. Paul filed a lawsuit on June 10 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Danielle N. Rex claiming several counts of negligence in a July 2013 crash.

According to the complaint, the defendant was operating her automobile in a northward direction on Lebanon Avenue at or near its intersection with West Boulevard in Belleville on July 10, 2013. The suit states that Rex’s vehicle was approaching a line of traffic that included the automobile driven by the plaintiff.

Court documents indicate that the defendant drove her car into Paul’s vehicle as a result of failing to obey a red traffic signal. The filing states that she failed to slow down, swerve or otherwise avoid colliding with the plaintiff. The plaintiff blames her injuries on the defendant’s purported negligence.

Paul allegedly sustained injuries to various parts of her body, suffering past and future pain and permanent disability. Claiming medical expenses, the plaintiff demands judgment in her favor for damages in excess of $50,000 plus attorney’s fees and costs.

She is represented by Brad L. Badgley in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 15-L-340.
