UPS driver claims back injury while fending off dog attack

A Madison County delivery man says he was hurt trying to protect himself from a dog attack in Edwardsville.

Steven Campbell filed a lawsuit against Kevin Autenrieb Nov. 13 in Madison County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, Campbell, a United Parcel Service employee, tried to deliver a package to Autenrieb's house in July 2012. Campbell says he was attacked by Autenrieb's dog and, while attempting to protect himself, hurt his back.

Campbell accuses Autenrieb of negligence and of violating Illinois' Animal Control Act. He asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical bills, lost wages and court fees.

Attorneys Charles W. Armbruster and Michael T. Blotevogel of Alton represent him.
