A Madison County woman says she broke her leg when she tripped on a piece of torn carpet and fell down a flight of stairs.
Wanda L. Roberson filed a lawsuit against Sandra S. Willey Nov. 6 in Madison County Circuit Court.
According to the complaint, Roberson was visiting a house in the 2400 block of Grand Avenue in Granite City in July 2012. While inside, she says she walked up a carpeted staircase, tripped on a torn piece of carpet and fell back down the stairs. Roberson claims she broke her leg in the fall.
Roberson contends the home owner, Willey, is liable for her injuries because she allegedly failed to repair the torn carpet, failed to warn guests of its danger and failed to have enough light in the stairway to be able to see the loose carpeting.
Roberson asks for more than $100,000 in damages for medical expenses and court fees.
Attorney Jeremy A. Gogel of St. Louis represents her. They request a jury trial.
