A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims failed to yield the right-of-way and struck her vehicle.
Melissa K. Todd claims she was driving a 2001 Monte Carlo Chevrolet west on Illinois 13 in Belleville on Nov. 1, 2011, at about 2:43 p.m. when defendant Cynthia M. Young, who was driving a 2011 Toyota 4-Runner north on Centreville Avenue, disobeyed a traffic control device and struck Todd’s vehicle.
Because of the collision, Todd suffered severe and disabling permanent injuries to her neck, face, back, shoulders, arms and legs; experienced pain and disability; and lost income and wages, according to the complaint filed Oct. 30 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Todd blames Young for causing the collision, saying she negligently drove too fast, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to obey traffic control devices, failed to stop to avoid a collision, failed to yield to traffic having the right-of-way and failed to yield to traffic already in the road.
In her complaint, Todd is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
James A. Gomric of O’Gara and Gomric in Belleville will be representing her.
St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-551.
