Wood River accident causes severe injuries, suit claims

A man has filed suit against the driver who he claims caused him to sustain injuries after she failed to keep a proper lookout.

Steve J. Rooney claims he was driving north when he stopped at the intersection of Route 143 and Enviro Way in Wood River on March 12, 2012. Suddenly, defendant Mia Nicole Stack-Carson struck Rooney’s vehicle, according to the complaint filed Oct. 17 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Rooney suffered severe and permanent injuries, was hindered from attending to his usual duties and affairs and experienced great pain and anguish, the suit states. He also incurred medical costs, the complaint says.

Rooney blames Stack-Carson for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to see and observe Rooney when he could be seen, failed to stop in time to avoid a collision, drove too fast and failed to decrease his speed to avoid a collision.

In his complaint, Rooney is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and additional relief the court deems just.

Christopher M. Donohoo of The Donohoo Law Firm in East Alton will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-1762.
