Cottage Hills woman claims neighbor's pit bull attacked her while she was relaxing outside home

A woman claims her neighbor’s pit bull attacked her, causing her to incur medical costs.

Krystle Leverett filed a lawsuit Oct. 17 in Madison County Circuit Court against Joseph C. Feazel and Linda Nichols.

In her complaint, Leverett alleges she was relaxing outside her home at 71 North Lincoln Street in Cottage Hills on March 27, 2013, when Feazel’s and Nichols’s pitbull/mastiff mix attacked her. Feazel and Nichols lived near Leverett at 82 North Lincoln, according to the complaint.

Because of the attack, Leverett sustained injuries; experienced pain, suffering and mental anguish; lost his normal life; and endured disfigurement, the suit states. She also incurred medical costs, the complaint says.

Leverett blames Feazel and Nichols for causing her injuries, saying they negligently failed to monitor their dog, harbored a dangerous dog, failed to adequately cage or restrain their dog, allowed the dog to roam, failed to exercise reasonable care for Leverett’s safety and failed to take adequate measures to prevent their dog from attacking others.

In her complaint, Leverett is seeking a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Christopher M. Donohoo of The Donohoo Law Firm in East Alton will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-1761.
