Suit claims laser surgery led to corneal transplant

A woman has filed suit against the doctor who she claims caused her to undergo a corneal transplantation after he performed a laser eye surgery on her.

Penny Oelschlager claims she underwent a bilatereal PRK on March 21, 2012, at defendant Illinois Eye Surgeons. However, during the laser surgery, defendant Dr. Michael P. Jones negligently failed to treat Oelschlager’s eyes in such a manner that solved her problems, according to the complaint filed Oct. 10 in Madison County Circuit Court.

As a result, she suffered corneal scarring that required corneal transplantation and endured additional surgeries, the suit states.

In her complaint, Oelschlager is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

John J. Hopkins of John J. Hopkins and Associates in Alton will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-1702.
