The mother of a five-year-old boy is suing three Sangamon County residents, saying her son sustained injuries because of a fence that was in poor condition.
Katrina Jackson filed a lawsuit July 10 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Michael and Brenda Young and Mary Thomas.
Katrina Jackson’s son, Kaeden Jackson, incurred medical costs and suffered a great deal of pain and anguish while he was under Thomas’s care at the Youngs’ Sangamon County home, according to the complaint. It also says he was hindered and prevented from attending to usual duties and affairs.
Kaeden Jackson suffered the injuries partially due to the fact that the defendants’ fence had fallen into “disrepair,” which the Youngs had failed to warn his mother about, the suit states.
“A portion of it (the fence) was protruding and sharp,” the complaint says.
Katrina Jackson does not specify how her son’s injuries occurred, but also partially blames them on Thomas, who failed to supervise Kaeden Jackson, failed to keep a reasonable watch over him, failed to protect his health and safety and failed to provide protection from dangerous objects and conditions.
In her four-count complaint, Katrina Jackson seeks a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs.
Mark C. Scoggins of Crowder and Scoggins in Columbia will be representing them.
