Collinsville accident is subject of Madison County suit

A Collinsville man has filed suit against the driver who he claims failed to yield the right-of-way when attempting to make a turn, causing a collision.

Steven Ianke claims he was driving west on Beltline Road near its intersection with Frederick Street in Collinsville on April 17 when defendant Roy Meyersick, who was driving east on the same road, attempted to turn left onto Frederick Street. In the midst of his turn, Meyersick collided with Ianke’s vehicle, according to the complaint filed July 8 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Steven Ianke suffered severe and permanent injuries, incurred medical costs, lost wages and benefits and suffered disability, the suit states. He also experienced great pain and suffering, the complaint says.

Andrea Ianke, who is married to Steven Ianke, claims she lost her husband’s support and services because of the collision.

The Iankes blame Meyersick for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to determine whether a turn could be made with reasonable safety, failed to yield the right-of-way, failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in a reckless manner, drove too fast, failed to properly use turn signals, failed to drive within a single lane, failed to sound his horn to avoid a collision, failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision and failed to yield the right-of-way.

In their complaint, the Iankes seek a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Brian M. Wendler of Wendler Law in Edwardsville will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-1128.
