Belleville rear-end accident is subject of suit

A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims rear-ended her vehicle, saying she sustained neck, back and hip injuries during the collision.

Gloria Ward claims she was driving west on North Belt West in Belleville on Sept. 7, 2012, when defendant Shaquita Marshall, who was driving in the same direction, struck the back of her vehicle. At the time of the collision, Shaquita Marshall was driving co-defendant Gloria Marshall’s vehicle.

In addition to her injuries, Ward became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled; incurred medical costs; and suffered disability because of the collision, according to the complaint filed June 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. She also experienced pain and suffering, the suit states.

Shaquita Marshall negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner so as to strike the back of Ward’s vehicle, failed to properly apply her brakes, drove too fast and followed Ward’s vehicle too closely, the complaint says.

In her complaint, Ward is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by Thomas C. Rich, Kristina D. Cooksey and Michelle M. Rich of Fairview Heights.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-312.
