EAST ST. LOUIS – Mother Deborah Perkins and son Douglas Oliver of Fairview Heights will plead guilty of drug crimes, according to their lawyers.
Perkins moved on June 19 to continue a trial that U. S. District Judge David Herndon had set to begin on July 1, and Oliver filed the same motion on June 20.
“Defendant does not intend to go trial and plans on entering a guilty plea in this matter,” Todd Schultz wrote for Perkins and John Stobbs wrote for Oliver.
“Defendant has requested but not yet received proposed plea agreement documents from the government,” Schultz and Stobbs wrote.
Herndon granted the motions on June 20.
A federal grand jury indicted Perkins and Oliver in February, on charges of conspiring to distribute heroin and a controlled substance.
Drug agents had opened an investigation in November, after the deaths of two women who allegedly overdosed on drugs in Perkins’s home at 20 Kassing Drive.
Prosecutors have identified Perkins and Oliver as associates of Sean McGilvery of Belleville, who faces similar drug distribution charges.
McGilvery allegedly supplied heroin to former St. Clair County Circuit Judge Michael Cook, who faces charges of heroin possession.
