St. Clair Square parking lot crash subject of $50K suit

A St. Clair County man is accused of causing a crash in a Fairview Heights parking lot that injured a teenage driver.

Tina Swann, mother and next friend of minor Brandi Swann, filed a lawsuit against Archie E. Humphrey Jr. on June 3 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

The collision happened in February 2012 while Humphrey was driving a 2001 Toyota Highlander east in a parking lot of St. Clair Square, according to the complaint.  Swann says her daughter, Brandi, was also in the parking lot and was driving west in a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier.

As Swann was attempting to make a left turn, her mother contends Humphrey also turned and drove his Highlander into the side of the Cavalier. She says the crash caused Brandi to "suffer pain and anguish" as a result of her injuries.

Swann accuses Humphrey of negligence for improperly using lanes, failing to properly yield the right of way and failing to avoid the collision. She is asking to be awarded more than $50,000 along with pre-judgment interest and court costs.

Attorney Stephen R. Clark of Belleville represents the Swanns.
